It's a make-or-break situation for Fabricio Werdum

Lopez is the winner of WBO super Bantamweight title

Juan Manuel Lopez defeated Daniel Ponce De Leon in the WBO super bantamweight title bout on Saturday night.

Lopez knocked down Ponce within seconds of beginning of the fight with a strong left to the body. The Mexican champion could not sustain that heavy blow, and received five hard shots in the head before falling down ultimately.

Lopez acknowledged that both were hard punchers but he had more ability and succeeded in launching more punches while Ponce failed miserably.

The bout between the former Olympians with opposite styles was expected to be closely fought, but turned out to be a damp fight. Lopez (22-0, 20 KOS) peppered Ponce, who was fighting his seventh defense, with heavy jabs and made him wobble around.

Ponce was surprised and admitted that though he came in with lot of confidence he could not withstand Lopez’s hard punches.

Lopez hit Ponce right after left when he got him cornered with his deft movements and floored him with final right hand punch. Ponce got up at the count of eight only to stumble back in to the ropes. The referee acted swiftly to wave off the fight in the first round and declared Lopez the winner.
