It's a make-or-break situation for Fabricio Werdum

Mixed martial arts being approved worldwide

The states of New Hampshire, Maryland and now Tennessee have made mixed martial arts as an approved and regulated sport. The Ultimate Fighting Championship has been in the forefront to have Mixed Martial Arts approved around the country, from a long time.

Currently the Ultimate Fighting Championship is the leader in approving Mixed Martial Arts worldwide. A show was recently held at Montreal in North America which was one of the top-grossing shows. The UFC is looking forward in doing some shows in Macau and Dubai.

Tennessee is a hotbed for mixed martial arts. Television ratings and pay-per-view buys are consistently at the top end of their charts. Once the new Tennessee Athletic Commission is formed and all the rules are in place, the UFC will be looking at a state to host fight and this state will be Tennessee. They believe that with their diehard fan base and beautiful rings, Nashville and Memphis would be great hosts for an Ultimate Fighting Championship event.

This is a very exciting day for people at the UFC. But Senior Vice President of FedEx Forum Steve Zito and their government-relations lobbyist, Melissa Bast, were very active in having the legislation go forward for MMA. Rep. Curry Todd was the first legislator to jump on board for the sport and, on the Senate side, Sen. Doug Jackson was very supportive with the MMA legislation.
