Popular disciplines of Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts is not an Olympic sport.
Mixed Martial Arts is also known as MMA, Vale Tudo, Ultimate fighting and No-Holds-Barred (NHB).

The popular disciplines of Mixed Martial Arts are:

Ground: Shoot wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Catch wrestling are taught to improve submission holds as well as defence against them. In order to improve and maintain ground control, these styles are also taught.

Stand-up: To improve elbowing, kneeing, kicking, punching and footwork, various forms of Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing and forms of full contact karate are taught.

Clinch: To improve takedowns, clinching and throws, Sambo, Judo, Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling are taught whereas to improve the striking aspect of the clinch, Muay Thai is taught.

Some styles are adopted from their traditional form like boxing. In order to improve various aspects of the game, a fighter has to get taught under multiple coaches for different styles. Strength training, speed drills, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning are also some of the important aspects of an MMA fighter’s training.

Initially, Mixed Martial Arts was exclusively practiced by competitive fighters but today, this is not the scenario. This sport has become accessible to a wider range of practitioners of all the ages as it is taught on a wider scale. It is said that this sport is safe for anyone, belonging to any age group, with different stage of competition.
