It's a make-or-break situation for Fabricio Werdum

Preparing for your MMA fight

Strength and muscle building is essential for MMA fighters.

You have to use repeated effort method for building your muscles. This includes sets of 6-12 reps with both traditional and non traditional exercises. You have to increase your endurance levels by using the conditioning methods available that are most effective.

This all has to be done in and every workout. You would do your speed training exercises first followed by your max effort work because generally the sequencing of exercises depend on what is most neurologically in demand. If needed, the hypertrophy work would be done next and then you would go into the conditioning. This will be the end of your workouts.

There are some exercises that would help you in your workouts

Chin-up: Grab the bar using an overhand grip and start from a dead hang position with both arms straight. Remember to pull up your chest towards the bar and keep your back arched. Squeeze your shoulder blades at the top together.

Hang Clean: Start with the bar just above your knees. Bend forward and arch your back. To initiate the movement, explosively shrug while you straighten your body and go up on your toes. Pull the bar to your upper chest height as it clears your waist. After reaching this position, flip the bar over and throw your forward elbows while you dip into a quarter squat position for catching the bar.
