Born on May 17, 1975 in Paris, France, Cheick Kongo is a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, competing in heavyweight category. Presently he participates in the United Fighting Championship in USA. He fights out of Fimeu Gym, Paris. He was introduced to martial arts like Kendo and Karate at the tender age of five. He only did what was typical of his family, learn the skills and tricks of martial arts. Just like his brother. As he grew older he also trained in Muay, Thai and Kickboxing. Later he also learned Greco-Roman Wrestling. When 19, he explored the world of Penchak Silat. His vital statistics and details are something to write home about: height, 6’3”; weight, 110kg; fighting style, Muay Thai, Kick boxing. His overall mixed martial arts record is 10 wins- 7 (T)KOs (70.00%), 1 Submissions (10.00%), 2 Decisions (20.00%); 3 looses- 1 (T)KOs (33.33%), 2 Decisions (66.67%); and 1 draw.

Having knocked out Andre in his debut match on June 10, 2001 as a professional, Kongo went on to defeat Dave Van der Veen in Total Knock Out. He fought his first UFC battle against Gilbert Aldana at UFC 61. He won in a fight that saw Kongo going completely wild. The decision was a TKO after the match was stopped under the instruction from a doctor. The next UFC fight saw the same result, Kongo won in a KO due to knee strike. However, Kongo lost the third fight to Carmelo Marrero known more as The Fury.

His training schedule for the week involves bodybuilding in the morning, swimming in the afternoon and Thai Boxing or Wrestling or Luta Livre in the night. In the weekend, he spends hours in Cardio and Sparring.

In 2005 he was the World Champion Federation King of the Rings. For him his inspirations are his mom and his big brother. Well trained in many a technique, he feels there is nothing like a favorite technique as such. It all depends who your opponent is: favorite technique is the one that sees you through. To him playing in the UFC is an honor. In all these acquiring of different fighting styles and techniques, he did not forget to learn a bit or two academically also. He did two years of college in France. Before he began to fight he used to work as a commercial agent for a French brand.
