Joey Villasenor (17 October, 1975) is an amazing martial art fighter who is well versed in free style fighting, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a Boxing champion. A native of Albuquerque in New Mexico and a member of Jackson's Gaidojutsu Academy; Joey stands tall with a towering height of 6'0 feet with a weight of 185 lbs. Joey Villasenor is nicknamed as Dreamsmasher and Smokin' Joe for his fighting tactics in the ring with a thumping record of twenty three wins and six losses.
As a mixed martial arts and Jiu Jitsu fighter, Joey Villasenor is a PRIDE fighting veteran and King of the Cage champion. He has also participated in Showtime's EliteXC and Welterweight Grand Prix. As a part of Jackson's Gaidojutsu Academy, Joey trains with a league of fighters such as Keith Jardine, Rashad Evans, Nathan Marquardt and Diego Sanchez.
Joey Villasenor made his free style boxing debut in the year 1999, in the month of April, and took the world of pro boxing by storm. During this span of time he won fifteen matches with consecutive wins. This gave Joey the name of dreamsmasher as his winning streak was a phenomenon. With a credit of fifteen wins, Joey made his PRIDE debut on 4 June 2006 against Ryo Chonan, a Japanese veteran. Since then, Villasenor has defeated former UFC middleweight champion David Loiseau at EliteXC's opening event. However, he lost to Murilo Rua in EliteXC‘s Strikeforce meet.
Joey Villasenor is a well known young pound to pound fighter in the current circuit of free style boxing; Villasenor is lethal in his technique of ground and pound techniques in his weight class category. Villasenor is well known for his knockout skills and power which have made him famous and nicknamed him as “one punch”. Under the tutelage of Greg Jackson and as a member of his famous Submission Fighting Academy, Joey Villasenor has turned out into a dominant fighter of the ring who does not easily give up to the opponent. His skills in free style boxing and his mastery in Jiu Jitsu give sleepless nights to any opponent.
Talking about the prowess of Joey Villasenor as a middle weight and KOTC championship and his interests, Bernie Calderon interviewed Joey and asked him his interests apart from what brought him into fight circuit. According to Joey Villasenor, he was always into active sports such as athletics, racing, baseball and football. When he graduated from his high school, he seriously took up UFC 3 and has never looked back since then. Royce Gracie was his inspiration when he took up MMA. Talking about his strength and weaknesses, Joey Villasenor rates his coach and teammates as his biggest strength along with his learning ability which helps him in understanding the intricacies of fighting. For him, fighting sports is a twenty four hour passion where he lives and eats with it. Talking about social responsibility, Joey wants to help the underprivileged kids as he was one of them. He wants to bring change in someone’s life.
