Dare to br Different: Kimo Leopald

Kimo Leopald

Kimo Leopald (5 January, 1968) is a fiery mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. Born in Munich, Germany, Kimo’s professional fighting destination is Hawaii, U.S.A. He started his MMA career in the year 1994 and since than there is no looking back as he has participated in almost all events. Kimo has a towering height of six feet and two inches and weights more than one hundred five kilograms. Kimo describes his fighting style as freestyle which is a cross between grappling and boxing techniques. Kimo is a well known fighter who enters UFC tournament while carrying a huge cross on his back, and for his theological Christian mindset and numerous tattoos. Even his manager, Joe Son carries a big cross in the ring.

MMA is also known as Mixed Martial Art fighting which an amalgamation of various fighting styles with no fixed or flexible rules. This sport is famous for its one to one combat techniques where skirting and grappling techniques rule the ring. Given the deadly nature of this sport, it is not played for a longer duration of time as it can prove fatal for any fighter. It is a spine chilling and blood curdling event which is full of blood and gore. It is not a staged performance which usually is done in wrestling matches. This game is not for tender hearted as it can virtually kill a human being if the mach is not played according to the rules.

Kimo is of large build and is capable of creating terror in the heart of his opponent on his day. His grappling techniques are awesome as no fighter is able to safe himself from his enormous grip. Even his boxing style is remarkable as his freestyle can destruct even the worthy fighter. His philosophical bent of mind has ignited many debates in the fight circuit; when approached Kimo and asked reason behind his carrying such a huge cross on his back, Kimo replied that it is the burden of truth which we all have to carry. He feels that he is accountable to God Jesus for every deed therefore he cannot hide his actions from the Almighty. Thus his sense of theology is something new which is unfound in wrestlers.

In professional freestyle MMA, Kimo has nine wins to his credit along with seven losses. His career can be described as follows: wins against Marcus Royster, David L. Abbott, Tim Lajcik, Brian Johnston, Paul Varelans, Bam Bam Bigelow, Kazushi Sakuraba, Fred Floyd and Patrick Smith. He lost to Wes Sims, Dave Legeno, Ikuhisa Minowa, Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie. Apart from his wins and loss at the MMA events, he was also involved in a steroid usage controversy where he was found guilty of consuming the banned drug Stanozolol in his 2006 MMA event against Bas Rutten. This resulted in his suspension from California State Athletic Commission for drug abuse. Earlier he was suspended from the Nevada State Athletic Commission and was fined $5,000 fine for testing positive for Stanozolol in a fight against Ken Shamrock. However, the career of Kimo Leopald has been uneven with patches of wins and failures.
