It's a make-or-break situation for Fabricio Werdum

Renzo Gracie

Renzo Gracie

Renzo Gracie was born in the hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on March 11, 1967. A member of the legendary Brazilian family, Renzo is an all-time practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BBJ). In his entire career record, he holds some extremely famous wins over past UFC champions Carlos Newton, Frank Shamrock, Oleg Taktarov, Maurice Smith, and Pat Miletich.

Renzo is qualified not only in BBJ, but has also contended in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events like the International Fight League, the PRIDE Fighting Championships, World Combat Championship, Martial Arts Reality Superfighting, and RINGS – King of Kings.

This 178 cm tall with 84 kg weight combatant holds several wins under his belt, in his entire professional career so far. In February 2007, Renzo Gracie triumphed over Frank Shamrock for upstart MMA campaign EliteXC on its first-ever night Saturday February 10, 2007; on showtime. Referee Herb Dean disqualified Shamrock by reason of knee strikes to the back area of Gracie’s head when both the contestants were on the floor. In spite of an earlier warning for illegal strikes in the match, Shamrock repeated the same move that eventually resulted in a severe concussion and forced Gracie to head towards the dressing room with the backing of his team members.

Other than combating, Renzo Gracie is also associated with coaching his team – the New York Pitbulls, in support of the International Fight League. In addition, he is the chief instructor at the Manhattan based Renzo Gracie Academy. With his sheer brilliance, he has been responsible for the success of numerous prominent MMA and BBJ fighters, by training them effectively. Some of these well-known fighters include BBJ black belt specialists like Matt Sera, Sean Alvarez, Rodrigo Gracie, and Ricardo Almeida.

Renzo has also written a Jujitsu instruction book “Mastering Jujitsu”; along with his training associate John Danaher. On family front, Renzo is brother to Ryan Gracie and Ralph Gracie, and has two children, Ruran and Coralina, in his married life.
