Zelg Galesic:The Fighter
Zelg Galesic is one of Croatia's latest upcoming and promising MMA fighters. Zelg nicknamed as “Benkei" was born 16th February 1979.
A tremendous fighter, Zelg’s height is six feet and two inches and weights around eighty four kilograms. Zelg has a Tae Kwon Do background which has helped him in his fighting career immensely. He is a three timer European ITF Tae Kwon Do winner, ITF Tae Kwon Do Champion and two times World Champion. Zelg has fought around three hundred kickboxing events both in and around Europe.
Well known for his fight tactics, Zelg Galesic are also known as "Croatian Wonderkid" and "The New CroCop" by his fan following. He is an amazing MMA fighter who can be a deadly opponent in one to one stand up fighting competition. He has been a regular at Pride fighting championship matches and an ardent UFC follower. Thus his progression towards MMA was a natural move.
Zelg entry into his first amateur MMA event was at Combat Sports Open Trials in the year 2003. He won the amateur events in less than one minute time. This was the biggest motivation which inspired him a lot and inducted him into professional MMA in Ultimate Combat 11 fighting competition. His success made him a member of Cheltenham’s Trojan Gym and a regular feature in “Urban Destruction” MMA events at Bristol. His fighting record presents six wins with five knockouts and one by submission. Till date he has lost two matches and there has been no drawn match.
Zelg ha s been lucky to have Enver Seperovic as his MMA fighting coach as he is the corner man of Mirko Filipovic, a famous European MMA fighter. In an interview with Zelg Galesic, when asked what initiated him into martial arts; he says that he started with ITF Taekwon at the young age of ten years. Initially he fought with New Ash Green and he was later discovered by Trojan Free Fighters due to his fighting prowess. As a professional fighter, he loves the CageRage events as he loves the adrenaline rush of the fighting events. Asked about his favorite heavy weight fighter and light weight fighter he says he adores Mirko, Fedor, Arlovski, Sylvia, Werdum in the former category and Liddell, Silva, Manhoef and Shogun in the latter category.
While talking about his Ultimate Fight School, Zelg feels proud for the talent he is receiving in his school as they are training in kick boxing taekwon-do and Thai boxing. He names couple of his favorite students as Selim Velagic, Blazenko Tomisic, Franko Kliman and Davor Jugovac. His message MMA and UFC aspirants are that they should train themselves vigorously and enter the ring with full preparation and total control.
